Hello everyone! My name is Sheree Tamaklo and I am the president of the Georgia Tech SWE section. Last week we held our first ever “Week of SWE,” or as we like to call it, SWEek! We held events on every day of the week, Tuesday 01/17 through Saturday 01/21, to expose members of the Georgia Tech community to the Society of Women Engineers. We went bowling, had a s’mores and trivia night, watched movies, played board games, and finished the week with a huge Girl Scout Outreach event. Over 20 volunteers were able to work with the troops to introduce about 100 girls to the joys of math, science, and engineering. Our enthusiasm and campus-wide exposure paid off, because this week we had one of the largest turn-outs for a general meeting!
Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait to see all you Divas at the Region D Conference in Charleston!
The Central Florida Section held its Annual “Little Black Dress” Party at J Alexander’s on January 18, 2012. Members and guests came in stylish attire and mingled amongst platters of delectable appetizers and dessert including Ahi tuna, sautéed shrimp, delicious mouthwatering carrot cake, and key lime pie. In addition to finding unusual commonalities amongst the attendees with a “Six Degrees of Separation” ice breaker, many were the recipients of door prizes and went home excitedly with new shopping endeavors to Ulta, Victoria Secrets, Apple, and Barnes and Noble, to name a few. A great time was had by all!
